MLP falls victim to theft of Christmas wreaths

It is with great sadness that we inform all of our supporters that our organization fell victim to the crime of theft sometime on tuesday night. Close to 100 Christmas wreaths were stolen from the storage shed where they were being kept pending this weekends delivery.

This is particularly hard for our group this season as we were dealing with a decline in sales which in return means less hours of work for the women of our group. For now MLP is committed to fulfill the the orders of our loyal supporters and will be working with out pay to make (again) the stolen wreaths.

If you would like to make a donation to make up for the stolen wreaths it would be greatly appreciated.

Four of our board members went to Salem Wednesday to show support for family members of Oregon National Guard members who are petitioning the legislature to keep our Oregon Guard at home.

Over 40 Oregonians from many counties and peace groups turned over  more than 7,000 signatures to Senate President Peter Courtney. You can see us in the picutre in the Oregonian article.

Thank you for another great year of wreath sales!!

In 2008, we had a great season, selling over 800 wreaths. We delivered wreaths to supporters from Woodburn, to Eugene, Portland and as far away as Sea-Tac.

MLP would like to thank all of the supporters who purchased a wreath and we hope to see your wreath order again in 2009. A special thanks to our contact people who volunteer to promote MLP wreaths within their Church, organization or labor union.

  • In Seattle, we thank Mr. Jake Saldaña and the Salem United Methodist Church.
  • In Tacoma, we thank Erik Nicholson and Susan Dobkins for wreath promotion and opening their home to our SEA-TAC delivery team with room and board.
  • In Portland, thanks to Marilyn Reed and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
  • In Eugene, thanks to Marion Malcolm and Mary Bosch.

For the first time this year, MLP set up a web page and a Pay Pal account to take wreath orders via the Internet! We hope to do this again next year.
Again THANK YOU ALL for your continued support year after year for farmworker women.

Hard work!

This year about 17 women have been hard at work making wreaths and helping in the logistics of the project. Here you can get a visual as to how we work side-by-side as a team to produce such a quality product. Most of the women working in the project are new to the group this year.

Buy Your Holiday Wreath

Since its founding as an organization of farm worker women, Mujeres Luchadoras Progresistas (MLP) members have worked to address the needs of farm worker women, and to foster economic and leadership development through the wreath making project. Through participation in MLP, farm worker women have the opportunity to participate actively in the planning and management of their workplace and activities. Members serve on the Board of Directors, participate in workshops, elect the Board of Directors, and take on new responsibilities in the organization.

MLP is fortunate to have the support of churches and unions in Seattle, Portland, Salem, and Eugene and depends on the generosity of these supporters to continue to grow and serve a broader base of farmworker women.

Each wreath measures 24-26 inches in diameter, handmade of noble fir boughs, pine cones, holly, and a red bow.

Wreaths are $30 each if it’s ordered and paid by November 23rd. The price for the wreath after this date will be $35 and we will be accepting paid orders until December 3rd.

Deliveries are made in early December to: Seattle, Portland, Salem & Eugene.
